GITARAMA PRESBYTERY: RETREAT FOR PASTORS AND THEIR SPOUSES HELD AT BETHANY HOTEL IN KARONGI

From Friday, January 16 to Saturday, January 17, 2026, a two-day retreat was held at Bethany Hotel in Karongi, bringing together the pastors of Gitarama Presbytery and their spouses. The retreat aimed to foster spiritual growth, fellowship, and reflection on the vital role of pastors and their partners in advancing God’s work. The event was attended church leaders, including the EPR President and the Vice President.  

The first day featured inspiring moments of praise and prayer. The Vice-Moderator, Rev. Rafiki Ndagijimana, delivered a sermon based on 2 Kings 6:1-7, emphasizing the theme: “Building Where You Are.” Participants were encouraged to unite their efforts in strengthening God’s work while nurturing their family lives.

On the second day, Moderator Rev. Fidèle SIBOMANA delivered a message based on Mark 10:46–52, titled Take Heart, Get Up, He Is Calling You.” His message strengthened and encouraged the pastors, renewing their courage and commitment to their calling

In addition to preaching, Rev. SIBOMANA led an insightful session on “The Role of the Pastor and Spouse in Parish Growth.” The discussion highlighted the home of a pastor as a vital cornerstone for the parish, emphasizing that unity and healthy relationships within the pastor’s household are essential for the spiritual growth of the church community.

Following this session, participants engaged in small group discussions, where pastors and spouses spoke openly about challenges affecting pastoral families and explored practical solutions. These conversations led to important recommendations adopted during the retreat.

The retreat concluded with remarks of the EPR President, Rev. Dr. Pascal Bataringaya, reminded participants that God’s love for His servants is everlasting and that pastors, too, need care and support. He emphasized that a pastor’s household should reflect the Kingdom of Heaven. he said. “Jesus knows our struggles; He neither condemns us nor abandons us.” He also praised the critical role of pastors’ spouses in ministry and encouraged couples to strengthen their bond for a harmonious and God-cantered family life.

Participants expressed deep appreciation for the retreat, noting its significance for both their spiritual lives and family relationships. Many suggested that such retreats be organized more frequently to reinforce unity and provide renewed strength for ministry.
