Building Classrooms, Building Futures: Three New ECD Classrooms Strengthen Early Childhood Education in Kabarondo parish, Zinga Presbytery

Kayonza District, Rwanda – August 2026, The Presbyterian Church in Rwanda (EPR), in partnership with the international organization World Servants, is strengthening access to quality early childhood education through the construction of three Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms in Kabarondo Parish, Zinga Presbytery.

The initiative is part of EPR’s ongoing commitment to promoting quality, inclusive, and accessible education, particularly during the critical early years of children’s development. The new classrooms will provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for young children while responding to the growing need for ECD services in the local community. The project is intended to benefit both children from EPR congregations and those from the wider surrounding community. By investing in early childhood infrastructure, EPR and World Servants are contributing to the creation of a strong foundation for children’s future academic, social, emotional, and personal development.

The official launch of the construction was marked by a public ceremony led by the Executive Secretary of Kabarondo Sector, together with the Head of Zinga Presbytery and the Director of Education in EPR, highlighting the project’s importance in promoting community development and early childhood education.

Beyond construction work, the international volunteers from the Netherlands have also been engaging local youth in sports and recreational activities. These interactions have created meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange, mutual learning, and stronger social ties. Through games and dialogue, the young people have been able to share their cultures, learn from one another, and gain a deeper appreciation of Rwanda’s history and heritage. The project continues to build not only classrooms, but also friendship and understanding between communities.

At the closing ceremony, the Vice President of EPR Rev Julie Kandema, guest of honour expressed gratitude to World Servants, volunteers, local authorities, and the Kabarondo community for their collaboration in constructing new classrooms. She highlighted the project’s contribution to improving access to quality education and reducing overcrowding. She also emphasized the strong friendship and partnership built between EPR, World Servants, and the local community. She encouraged the school management and community to care for the infrastructure and sustain the collaboration. She concluded by thanking the volunteers for their contribution and wishing them a safe return home.
